"There's someone else on this island!" Laramie said as the two men quietly walked closer to the shining object. They spoke not a word so as not to betray their presence. Even the jungle was silent for the creeping men.
As they came closer they realized that the light was not moving.
"It looks like a reflection." Godfrey whispered.
"It is a reflection!" Laramie exclaimed aloud losing his gentle voice. Laramie ran up to the shining object and dropped to his knees.
"It's a diamond!" Laramie called. "Godfrey, go back to the ship now and tell the captain what we've found!"
"Aye, sir!" Godfrey layed down his musket and sword and ran as fast as his legs could carry him.
"A diamond?" Captain Jim asked
"Yes, sir, Laramie held it in his hand!"
"All right, me boys, you heard the man, the treasure's on the island!" Jim called aloud to all his pirates. "Man the landing boat and we're off!"
In the mad scramble that followed nobody seemed to notice another ship pulling into the shallow waters behind the Lady Jane.
To be continued...
